SAF ranks part 1: Lower ranks

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO:
26th July- Priya and Weilin
27th July- Junrui, Triple H and Julian McMahon (Doctor Doom!)

In coincidence to the drama currently airing on Ch 8, I am gonna start off on a 4-part feature on the different ranks in the SAF... and the first part will be on the enlistee ranks.

ENLISTEE RANKS
The situation for enlistees is a bit more complicated. Recruits of all services do not wear any rank insignia. Only Army Infantry Privates who are awarded the Private First Class rank wear the single stripe. Normal Privates would not have any rank insignia like recruits. Rank insignia are worn on both sleeves, 10 cm below the top of each sleeve, aligned to the crease just as the case for Specialists. The rank of Corporal First Class is currently being implemented. It will be awarded to deserving Corporals who are unable to be promoted to the rank of Third Sergeant due to establishment requirements.

PRIVATE (PTE)
Once Recruits complete their Basic Military Training (BMT), they attain the rank of Private (PTE), the lowest rank in the military system. Enlisted personnel form the basic foundation of the Army's manpower. Privates do not wear ranks on their sleeves.

PRIVATE FIRST CLASS (PFC)
The rank of Private First Class (PFC) is usually held by junior enlisted soldiers midway through their national service term. Private First Classes wear a rank insignia consisting of a single chevron pointing down. This rank is no longer issued.

LANCE CORPORAL (LCP)
Lance Corporal
is a military rank below Corporal used by some armed forces, police, and other uniformed organizations. It is usually equivalent to the NATO Rank Grade OR-3.
Like the rank of Corporal, it is not considered a Specialist rank, and the Lance-Corporal has absolutely no command authority by virtue of his rank. However, Lance-Corporals who are appointed second-in-command of a section (military unit) do have the authority to command the rest of the section. National Servicemen in such appointments are usually promoted to this rank in the middle of their two-year enlistment.

CORPORAL (CPL)
Corporal
is a rank in use in some form by most militaries, police forces or other uniformed organizations around the world. It is usually equivalent to NATO Rank Code OR-4.
It is the most common rank held by National Servicemen, who are usually promoted to the rank near the end of their active-duty obligation. In the past, the SAF followed the British model, and Corporals were non-commissioned officers often holding the appointment of section leader. Today, a Corporal is not a Specialist (NCO-equivalent), and holds no command authority.

Bao Jia Wei Guo characters

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO...

24th July- Torrie Wilson Anna Paquin (Rogue), Farhan S, Mr S and Aurora Rose Levesque (daughter of The Game and Steph McMahon)
25th July- Kenneth Soh and Huang Wenyong

Wowwee, the first two episodes of "Honor and Passion" really rock!! Very good balance between the introduction of the characters and the outlook on the different military vocations... great acting from the cast! I haf no regrets watching this show whatsoever :-)
Firstly, I introduce the Bao family...

Huang Wen Yong plays Bao Pengju, a full-time warrant officer, who is saddled with the roles of both father and mother after the demise of his wife some 12 years ago, and though he loves his brood dearly, he maintains a strict mien. Unknowingly, he has raised his four kids military style.

Tay Ping Hui plays Bao Wenjing, the eldest kid in the Bao household. He is a full-time commando in the SAF and Pengju's biggest pride. The calm, intelligent and highly skilled Wenjing is very much valued by the SAF. Wenjing has a major weakness with girls, cause whenever he wants to start a conversation with a lady he likes, his mind will turn blank and he will tend to put on a cool front.

Bryan Wong plays Bao Wenzhong, the second child of the Bao household. He is a computer engineer as well as an active NSman (Platoon Sergeant). He is also the peacemaker and counselor in the family. Wenzhong is easygoing in nature with a good sense of humour, which naturally makes him the object of affection for many women. However, Wenzhong is full of ideals on the subject of love, awaiting to find "the one".

Rui En plays Bao Wenwei, the third child of the Bao household. Because she is the only girl in the family, she is raised like a male and even dresses like a man, though her room is full of pig toys. If there's one thing Wenwei hates a lot, it's being called 'stupid'. Besides being a little reckless, she has a rather low tolerance to liquor.

Nathaniel Ho plays Bao Wenguo, the youngest child of the Bao household. Having just graduated from poly, he is awaiting enlistment in NS, and is being forced by Pengju to undergo training every morning. He is extremely lazy and greedy, and due to the fact that Pengju often compares him to Wenjing, he really resents enlistment. During his course however, Wenguo comes to realise the significance of military training, as well as the importance of unity and responsibility. He also finds himself becoming a more mature person.

Now I introduce the soon-to-be in-laws! :-)

Liu Yamei (Hong Huifang) is a chief clerk in the army and a colleagues of Pengju. She has always been secretly in love with him, and takes good care of the four Bao children. She used to frequent the Bao family home, making sure that everything was running smoothly, doing everything the lady of the house would. Yamei has often been arranged to go for matchmaking sessions by her relatives, and has come across candidates with good credentials. But she is always picking on everything she can think of, and as a result no one seems to be good enough. This is because she is still waiting for Pengju. The Bao children are also aware of her feelings for their father, and thus do their best to bring them together. Pengju is also aware of her devotion to him, but he simply cannot forget his dead wife. Thus, he is still unable to bring himself to accept Yamei.

While doing research for an advertisement on army life, Wenwei gets to know a female army officer named Ouyang Peipei (Felicia Chin). During her interaction with Peipei, Wenwei discovers that Peipei is intricately linked with two of her brothers: Wenjing and Peipei were acquainted during their military training, while Wenzhong and Peipei were secondary school classmates. The very feminine Peipei, a captain from the School of Artillery, is the dream lover of many men. Wenjing is merely one of many who have fallen for her. Wenjing wishes to try and win her affection, but every time he comes close to her, his mind turns blank and he is rendered tongue-tied again. This, to Peipei, is a sign of weakness and she initially forms a bad impression of Wenjing. Later she decides to give him a chance and goes on dates with him, but soon realises that there are considerable differences between them. The truth is Peipei has been in love with Wenzhong. Peipei has always liked Wenzhong ever since they were in secondary school. However, Wenzhong has only treated her as a friend and is aware of his brother’s affections for this sassy officer. Never one to admit defeat, Peipei believes that she will win his love someday as long as she perseveres.

Picasso (Pierre Png) is the new creative director in the advertising firm, and has been assigned to work with Wenwei. Stingy and rebellious in nature, Picasso gets off on the wrong foot with Wenwei right from the start. They are always quarreling about every little thing. Coincidentally, when Picasso attends in-camp training, his commander turns out to be Wenwei's father Pengju. Pengju has a bad impression of Picasso because of his slack attitude during training. However, he changes his mind and sees Picasso in a different light when the latter saves a fellow soldier in the face of danger.

In a misunderstanding, Wenzhong gets to know Liang Xiaonuo (Dawn Yeoh) from a neighbouring country. Wenzhong has a good impression of Xiaonuo, who is physically disabled and walks with a limp but is a mentally strong and determined girl. He falls for her and decides that Xiaonuo is ‘The One’ he has been waiting for. Although touched by Wenzhong’s sincerity, Xiaonuo is unable to forgive herself for causing the death of her ex-boyfriend. On top of it, she is conscious of her handicap and finds herself unable to accept Wenzhong’s affections. Later, Wenzhong risks his own life to save Xiaonuo. His actions finally melt down her defense, and Xiaonuo consents to accept Wenzhong. However, the traditional Pengju does not approve of his son choosing to be with a woman with a physical disability. He objects vehemently, and for the first time, father and son have a falling out. Subsequently, with the encouragement and advice from Yamei, Pengju decides to find out more about Xiaonuo. He secretly checks up on her and discovers that she is in fact a kind and understanding person. He is finally able to let go of his previous prejudice, and grants his approval to the young couple.

And now, the main villain of the show... (loud boos, everyone)

At a Taekwondo practice, Wenjing gets to exchange blows with Wu Chengyi (Ix Shen). The two men’s skills are closely matched. They then discover each other to be primary schoolmates. Chengyi is a freelance photographer, and has been working in third world countries most of the time. With the air of a philosopher, he would spout a couple of lines on the meaning of life now and then. During an advertisement shoot that Wenwei is charge of, the photographer she engaged backs out due to some food allergies. Chengyi volunteers his service and takes the place of the photographer. Wenwei is extremely grateful and becomes drawn to this talented yet mysterious man. Chengyi is aware of Wenwei’s feelings for him. However, due to the burden of his 'mission', he tries to keep Wenwei at arms’ length.
Unknown to the Bao family, Chengyi is actually the leader of a terrorist group. It turns out that Chengyi’s mission this time is to rescue his brother who is on death row. Chengyi has repeatedly used bomb threats to force the government to release his brother, to no avail. Chengyi thus decides to make the matter personal when he kidnaps Wenwei and holds a kindergarten school hostage.

Tomorrow's the day!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO CHRISTOPHER LEE, DANIEL RADCLIFFE (HARRY POTTER) AND STEFANIE SUN
The start of the Leo Star!!

In spite of the crappy attendance, I managed to make use of the two lessons to finish the animal character drawing during the brief hours of school... a happy-go-lucky alligator (or crocodile, whichever way u see it) who is a champion in billards. The ideas were loosely based on my love for snooker as well as the alligator being one of the zords for Merrick Baliton aka the Lunar Wolf Ranger (another pool player!). Now I need to print the second copy of the magazine poster at Bras Basah Complex asap...

Distributing flyers for Mos Burger near the escalator for the past two days was definitely not fun at all... esp when u get rejected by so many people coming out from the tunnel or coming down from the escalator. Still, on Sunday I was a bit lucky cos at around 1720 hrs, I met into a very pretty and sweet gal whom I had known since last year... JASMINE TYE!!! Man was I surprised... the moment she started talking, I started to blush (as always)!! Then minutes later, another hot lady came... Amy Cheng from Growing Up and First Touch (last seen as Elvin's mum in AQLDC), holding hands with her son and new husband while heading to Isetan supermarket.

Wahaha... the drama that many fans have waited for so long is finally gonna debut on Channel 8 tomorrow!! :-D

Tons of WrestleCrap!!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO WILLEM DAFOE (GREEN GOBLIN), SHAWN MICHAELS, NG HUI AND JOAKIM GOMEZ

With the WWE show just around the corner, I would like to share some vciews on the latest happenings in the WWE...

What the hell... Edge is now injured and forced to vacate the World title. (another 'emergency storyline change' owing to injuries, which was used for Mr Kennedy and Undertaker a few mths ago)... that means he can't come over for the Summerslam tour in Singapore... and The Great Khali won the vacant title in a Battle Royale??? DAMN!!!!

But wait!! You know what that means??? Since Edge is no longer World Champ, Batista is legit for another World Title shot!! HOORAY!!! :-D

Bobby Lashley is gonna face John Cena for the WWE Championship today at The Great Amercian Bash PPV, but I haf high doubts that the title would change hands just yet... for goodness sake, when is Cena ever gonna drop the championship already??? He's held it for 10 freaking months!!!

Today is the Heartbreak Kid's 42nd birthday, but RAW seems to be rather 'dead' without him or Triple H (and John Cena is still annoying the critics with the overrun hype as WWE Champ). Still waiting for the return of DX...

And ECW Champion Johnny Nitro has renamed himself John Morrison??? Who does he think he is... successor to Jim Morrison from The Doors??? I want that ECW title to go to CM Punk asap!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO...
20th July- Siew Woon, Pamela
21st July- Mathilda D'Silva, Daniel Xu

Missing Lio Kaiser

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO CONNIE (BATUCADAS) AND KHAIRUL

The APD assignment on magazine poster design seemed really fun to work on, and before I knew it, I was close to finishing it. The writeup on the school project for the 2016 Olympic Games was really brairn-wrecking... and my head continued to shake with dismay as Mr D and Miss R came to school super-late yet again. And Phiz is still absent!!

Oh, and while doing research on the flag of Singapore, I stumbled upon a certain Transformers website of the 90s... and it was on a certain toy robot I once had when I was very young... LIO KAISER!!! Arghhhh.... I missed 'him' so much... some of the parts were broken and I had no choice but to sell 'his' away some 7 yrs ago (esp since the Victory robots looked less glamourous than the newer Transformers and the newer Power Ranger robots that followed the Transformers concept). Well, I certainly had no regrets then...

A lookback at the toy I once owned from 1991 to 2000...

LEOZACK
The first member of the Breast Force (dont laugh) to appear. He functions as Destron Emperor Deszaras' right-hand man and is much more competent than the bumbling leader of the Dinoforce. Trasforms into the head and upper torso of Lio Kaiser.
Vehicle form: F-14 Tomcat jet
Animal motif: Lion
GAIHAWK
A violent Destron, he spent many episodes of Victory imprisoned. He was later freed by his Breast Force comrades and proceeded to massacre his guards. Transforms into the right arm of Lio Kaiser.
Vehicle form: MiG-29 Fulcrum jet
Animal motif: Hawk

HELLBAT
A schemer and easily the most cowardly of the group. He is very dangerous due to his unique talent where he hypnotises his victims. Transfroms into the left arm of Lio Kaiser.
Vehicle form: JAS-39 Gripenjet
Animal motif: Bat

JARUGA
A stealth warrior, his speciality is ambushing his victims. Transforms into the lower torso of Lio Kaiser.
Vehicle form: Missile buggy
Animal motif: Jaguar

KILLBISON
The most bloodthirsty and least intelligent of the group. Transforms the right leg of Lio Kaiser.
Vehicle form: Double-barrelled tank
Animal notif: Bison

DRILLHORN
The Breast Force strategist. Like other Destron strategists before him, he occasionally loses sight of the little things in favour of the big picture. Transforms into the left leg of Lio Kaiser.
Vehicle form: Drill tank
Animal motif: Rhino

LIO KAISER
As might be expected from the assembly of three air and three land warriors, he is known as a Super Gestalt Transformer who can counter all manner of battle patterns. However, due at least in part to the inability of his six components to get along, he cannot move well when they must suddenly try to act as one and fight.

The reason for the name Breast Force is their toy gimmick. Each Breast Forcer came with a detachable breastplate that transformed into an animal-attack partner which could also transform into a blaster weapon. What animal each Breast Force member came with was hinted at in the name of that Destron. (for example, Leozack came with a lion, while Gaihawk had a hawk, and so on.)

Discussions on army magazines, and watching a movie free of charge!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO RADIAH

Not much done in school... still very few of us came for PE. And Phiz is still absent for the second time this week (just exactly what has he been up to this time???). And Hakim finally showed up in school after a week's absence, only to be warned that he may be out of the school if he were to do such things again. Miss April's lesson on Character Design made us wish we were in the computer lab instaed of in the classroom. Well, looks like Miss R is already close to getting expelled soon (given her repeated MIA track record)... same for Mr D who came to school super late at 1130 hrs, waaaay after the last lesson had already ended??? SCREW THAT IGNORANT FELLA!!! >:-(

Still, I had lunch at the canteen, then changed to my Maroon 5 shirt and took a bus to Orchard Cinelesiure... where I groaned at the sight of poor Bumblebee lying face down in the display. Wont the security at least be kind enough to do something abt the standing arrangements of the toys?!? Anyway, Superman reached Cineleisure early at ard 1310 hrs, and then we headed for a quick discussion on unsubscribing from PIONEER magazine at Long John's Silver... after which, we headed for a 1-hr Internet session at E-Max upstairs. My initial plan was to play a certain Transformers game inside, but it turns out the game may have been either removed or installed elsewhere... after we were done wif Internet surfing, me and Superman headed to Orchard HMV to look thru some DVDs... managed to see Batman DVDs, Transformers DVDs, Thundercats, Masters of The Universe, and many more stuff that bring a nostalgic feel...

Oh, and we get to watch a FREE movie in HMV as well (minus tickets, popcorn and the seats)... the WWE film that never made it to the cinemas, "The Marine". And after watching the film for the whole 90 minutes, I finally came to understand the reason behind its exclusion from the cinemas... the plot was rather bland and relied too much on the action than on the character development. The scriptwriters obviousy cant think of a better storyline... let alone use this film to promote John Cena and his lack of acting talents. In the first 40 mins, we get to see John Cena get discharged from the army for not following a direct order, and then he gets fired from his job as a security guard... after that, his wife Kate (a very hot chick named Kelly Carlson, one of the leads for Nip/Tuck) gets kidnapped by some terrorists led by Robert Patrick aka the T-1000. Cena manages to escape from a blown-up police car, and the police wouldnt want to help him, so Cena takes out the entire gang by himself. By the time it got to the final showdown between the WWE Champ and the former terminator (who didnt melt in the explosion), I was already close to yawning. I was going "LOL!!" with the really quick ending after John Triton defeats Rome. I would rather see Kate battle R-P's hawt female sidekick Angela (played by Abigail Bianca) in the earlier fight, than see that dreadful vehicle chase and Cena's unbeliavable escapes thru THREE explosions. John McClane, he aint. 2 out of 5 for the overall film, 4 out of 5 for the hotties, 1 for Cena's acting. Better stick to wrestling on RAW, John.

SPD charity show!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO VARINDER, IVY LEE AND BOBBY LASHLEY

Everything went quite smoothly I must say... just before I knocked off at 5 pm (from another agonising day at work), I made an order of prawns, fries and apple pie for Meiling and packed it all within 5 minutes... then I quickly changed to civilian clothes and rushed to the taxi stand... where I had to wait for abt 20 minutes for my turn to board the cab. Thankfully, the queue at the parking lot was still present (and building up) when I reached Mediacorp at 1745 hrs. Eric aka Fiona's fan, who had been pestering me like a million times for the past 3 days on whether to meet him before the show, eventually sneaked into the theater without being noticed by the rather blur usher... oh, and I got to meet Hoetian (aka the cool guy who uploaded all the Kinship videos on Youtube) in person for the very first time! Besides Meiling, Rina, Audrey and Joyce Stella, other fans who were present were Amelia, Amanda, Terence and Melvin :-)

Start of show... I dont really like Mickey Huang for some strange reasons similar to why people dont like Mich Saram (not just the fact that he shaved his sideburns, which I consider very unmanly). Still, there were plenty of things I liked during the show...

Stuff I like

1. the hand-dance item involving Elvin Ng, Nat Ho, Darren Lim, Daren Tan, Ben Yeo, Tianwen (si botak Anxin!!), Lee Teng and Pornsak... really interesting and funny. I thot the 8 guys danced like MJ or Justin Timberlake.

2. the Mi Lu Bing performance... really rocked the house. And Nic definitely looed more shuai wif short hair.

3. the dance item by 6 babes (Michelle Chia, Constance Song, Ong Ai Leng, Lin Cui Fang, Carrie Yeo and Chen Diya) was really graceful and stunning.

4. the Campus Superstar Top 8 performing... I was really happy to see Joanna Teo among the finalists. While all the 4 babes (Agnes, Zhengning, Keely) look very pretty, I haf to say that the hottest babe had gotta be Keely. Pardon me for sounding rather 'sexist', but I think I paid too little attention to the guys...

5. What else but the appearance of the 5 princesses... Fiona, Jeanette, Joanne, Felicia and Dawn!! On a personal note, it was great to see Fel and Jo in person once again... pity they all left the place rather early afterwards. And I was planning to let Fiona and Dawn remember my name... sigh, next time perhaps :-/

6. Chris Lee being the first celeb to appear on stage...

Stuff I dislike

The latter part of the show after Fann's appearance was really dull... veteran singers performing for an agonising 20 mins (only Alan Tam's performance was justified). The item where Justice Bao sang along wif some DJs didnt really provoke much interest. Had I seen this coming, I would haf left the theater ealier just to catch up wif Fel and the rest. But alas, I chose to stay all the way til the finale...

The moment the end credits started rolling, me and Eric decided to head straight to Radiogate without any hesitation (and I still hadn't eaten anything!)... that's where I got to meet up wif Ryan, Karlyn and Pamela. First few artistes to come out at RG were Mi Lu Bing (who posed for group pic), Michelle Chia and Daren Tan (by car)... soon after came Lee Teng and Pornsak (by foot). Then came Carrie, Diya, Ong Ai Leng and a certain Zhijie from CSS. I managed to take pic wif the beautiful Ai Leng just moments before Carrie drove off. I wasnt too pleased to see that shorty scold poor Melvin over the mispronouncing of a celeb's name... arrogant midget. Then Elvin drove out abt 10 mins later, and first thing he said after getting out the car was "which one of you is Ta-net?" And everyone started chanting "Ta-net, Ta-net, Ta-net!", to which I replied, "Aiyah, it's Tanat (nut) lah!" Elvin then passed to me the DVD that Nat would haf wanted to hand to me personally (but couldnt due to other reasons, which are understandable). Never thot I would be greatly embarrassed over name mispronounciation... but that's ok :-p

Soon after, another car drove out, and I heard someone say, "It's Julian". At once, I quickly rushed to the other side of RG region, and took pic wif Julian Hee aka Hansheng!! Then I rushed back to the right side of Andrew Road and took pic wif Elvin, and after he drove off, I suddenly remembered something... "OH NO!!! I FORGOT TO CALL JOANNA TO CHAT WIF ELVIN!!!! NOOOOOOO...!!!!!!!!" Somthing so simple, yet I can forget!!! XUETE!!!! Anyway, the rest of us stayed til 2330 hrs, and then left the place when there wasnt any sight of other celebs.

Tolerance to despicable souls... at what cost?

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO...
13th July- Andy Cai (Soul Fusion), Darren DT and Patrick Stewart (Professor X)
14th July- Hoonie, Fahrun and Shalehan

I nearly lost my soul to the dark side ytd in school... not due to my 'infatuation' towards a certain person, but due to the frequent taunts coming from a bloody midget-b***h-imbecile who will never ever learn to be a better person. You see, this person is being super racist, calling me "Thailand boy" repeatedly even while I ignore her. She doesnt want to take her studies seriously, having skipped school for 3 long weeks in the last term. And when she came back from her long hiatus (best she never returned at all), her behaviour just got from bad to worse... and now 'she''s doing this even after a 3-week holiday (and 'she' still laughs like a hyena). If I had a choice, I would gladly grab her throat, smash her head onto a wall and break her neck with a Crippler Crossface... but I am not the kind of person who's gonna do that. To respond to constant taunting with violence would only serve to worsen the conflict and turn me into a monster no different to Darth Vader or even Kane, and the others will start to look down on me (that way, I would 'lose the war'). So I chose to yell at the bloody b***h instead, holding back my fists all this while. I would probably yell the word B***H to her, but that wouldnt do any good to myself. My only wish is that the b***h (whose name I shall not reveal) will someday lose the ability to talk... that way we wont get freaked out by her rapid chattering, vulgarity spewing and hyena-like laughter.
I can't even remember the last time I really fought with someone. I'm just thankful I'm not the kind of person who would want to get involved in fights during my secondary school days... and that b***h's name-calling is nothing compared to the turmoil I had been thru in primary school. No matter how much that b***h makes fun of me, she would never break my spirit. I wont be too surprised if she gets debarred from the main exam, or share the same fate as Miss J, Mr S, Mr H and Mr F before'her. I dont even wish to waste my time or saliva on such a despicable bum. AND I REALLY HOPE SHE GETS TO READ THIS, AND THANK HER LUCKY STARS THAT SHE'S STILL IN ONE PIECE!!

Slightly better response

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO...
11th July- Jackson Koh and Kelly Poon
12th July- Tom, Caiyun and Topher Grace (Venom!!)

Things got slightly better now... majority of the class start showing up (still got the usual latecomers), and lessons now start proper at long last. The project for PJM was to design a certain logo, poster and mascot for the 2016 Olympic Games in Singapore (this is actually make-believe lah)... it doesnt sound so simple at all, esp when a write-up on the project progress is required (not to forget tons of research). Luckily, the next assignment for Applied Aesign sounded simpler and not so nerve-wrecking at all... we had to re-design a certain magazine spread and paste the pictures in a new blank file to make a new spread, and add some new effects to it. oh, and for Character design, Miss April did make her return!! There's no more 3D animation lesson (damn, no Maya lessons for now) or Web Design lesson (good riddance!!)... but then, Mr D already started throwing fits at Mr Wesley for saying that his final assignment on online portfoilo was 'less-than-perfect'. I dunno what really went wrong, but I haf to say that Mr D's attitude is worsening as of late...

As the day to the SPD charity show draws nearer, I could only try to reach out to my 'intense feelings' and attempt to relive the 'symbiote sensation' I once experienced those few months ago... it's been a month since I last saw Elvin, Fel and Fiona, 2 mths since I last saw Dawn and Nat, and 4 mths since I last saw Jopeh. Not sure abt approaching Jeanette for a picture though...
