My thoughts on Fiona's MIA stint

Happy Birthday to Pamela Wong

This is a scenario I never, ever wanted to see happen. Fiona Xie doing a “Mas Selamat” (according to some of my friends) b
y pulling out from the year-end blockbuster drama “Together” at the 11th hour last Wednesday, and then going overseas to “attend to personal matters”. Whatever the reasons for her pulling out may be, she is simply making matters worse by running away without a proper explanation. What a huge shame indeed... surely she should know that running away won't solve anything?

I may not know Fiona very well in spite of the 2.5 years of going for her events and taking picture with her a few times, I did get a rough idea of her off-screen character at one point of time. I do remember the other time when I worked with her and a few others for “Calefare” last August, I could somehow see that she doesn’t seem very passionate with what she’s doing, she seemed to lack focus in the job, and quite often she was seen chatting on the phone for minutes before filming began. No wonder my mum and her colleague think that she's rather snob. I left the fanclub for good sometime after my stint as calefare, not just because of this few encounters, but also due to sheer pressure from ONE of the committee members who was trying to keep me within the FC (damn you, EY!!!). But even so, I still went for some of her events whenever I can...

Although I wasn't a big fan of Fiona, I was nonetheless quite affected by this recent news. In fact, I may find it rather hard to forgive Fiona for this action (even if it's nowhere near Chris Benoit standards). You may call me cold-blooded all you like, but I personally feel that what she did was unethical, irresponsible and totally unprofessional. I mean come on, she is 27 years old, not 7! She should know better than to "just up and run away"... that this decision she made could lead to a serious breach of contract. Even though she has left a very bad impression on all of us MediaCorp fans, I simply hope that someday she would come out of hiding and bear full responsibility for her own actions.

I got one more thing to add... I COULD have chosen to write to 8 days on my thoughts abt Fiona's withdrawal-cum-MIA... but I did some consideration and decided not to do it, feeling that my proposed letter wouldnt solve anything, it would only serve to hurt Fiona's reputation even more as well as her fans (esp since I know some of them).
Still, her offence is no different from the several MIA stints I had seen in school or in NS, even at work.

With that, I dedicate this MJ song (complete with those unavoidable 'vocal hiccups') to Fiona Xie Wan You... as well as to anyone who have been greatly affected by this controversy, one way or another. I apologise if I have been rather harsh on Fiona here... but I can't just sit down and keep my peace, esp since she had committed a very serious offence.

MICHAEL JACKSON- Who Is It
Written and composed by Michael Jackson

Featured in the studio album "Dangerous"

I Gave Her Money, I Gave Her Time
I Gave Her Everything Inside One Heart Could Find
I Gave Her Passion, My Very Soul
I Gave Her Promises And Secrets So Untold

And She Promised Me Forever
And A Day We'd Live As One
We Made Our Vows We'd Live A Life Anew
And She Promised Me In Secret
That She'd Love Me For All Time
It's A Promise So Untrue
Tell Me What Will I Do?

Chorus 1
And It Doesn't Seem To Matter

And It Doesn't Seem Right
'Cause The Will Has Brought No Fortune
Still I Cry Alone At Night

Don't You Judge Of My Composure

'Cause I'm Lying To Myself

And The Reason Why She Left Me

Did She Find In Someone Else?

(Who Is It?) It Is A Friend Of Mine...
(Who Is It?) Is It My Brother!
(Who Is It?) Somebody Hurt My Soul Now
(Who Is It?) I Can't Take This Stuff No More!

I Am The Damned, I Am The Dead
I Am The Agony Inside The Dying Head
This Is Injustice, Woe Unto Thee
I Pray This Punishment Would Have Mercy On Me

And She Promised Me Forever
That We'd Live Our Life As One
We Made Our Vows We'd Live A Love So True
It Seems That She Has Left Me
For Such Reasons Unexplained
I Need To Find The Truth
But See What Will I Do!

Chorus 2
And It Doesn't Seem To Matter

And It Doesn't Seem Right
'Cause The Will Has Brought No Fortune

Still I Cry Alone At Night

Don't You Judge Of My Composure

'Cause I'm Bothered Everyday

And She Didn't Leave A Letter

She Just Up And Ran Away

(Who Is It?) It Is A Friend Of Mine...
(Who Is It?) Is It My Brother!
(Who Is It?) Somebody Hurt My Soul Now
(Who Is It?) I Can't Take It 'Cause I'm Lonely!

Hee hee... hee hee...
Don't try to make me... don't try to make me quit
I never was... we never were... it just won't stop
Don't bother me... don't bother me

(Who Is It?) It Is Friend Of Mine
(Who Is It?) To Me I'm Bothered!
(Who Is It?) Somebody Hurt My Soul Now
(Who Is It?) I Can't Take It 'Cause I'm Lonely!

And It Doesn't Seem To Matter (Hee hee!)
And It Doesn't Seen Right (Hee hee!)

'Cause The Will Has Brought No Fortune

Still I Cry Alone At Night

Don't You Judge Of My Composure (Buddy!)

'Cause I'm Lying To Myself

And The Reason Why She Left Me

Did She Find Someone Else?

And It Doesn't Seem To Matter (don't bother me!)

And It Doesn't Seem Right (you just did it!)

'Cause The Will Has Brought No Fortune (da dap, da dap)
Still I Cry Alone At Night (Saint of the nothing but the)

Don't You Judge Of My Composure

'Cause I'm Bothered Everyday

And She Didn't Leave A Letter

She Just Up And Ran Away (can't you really see I'm lonely!)

And It Doesn't Seem To Matter

And It Doesn't Seem Right (hee hee...)

'Cause The Will Has Brought No Fortune

Still I Cry Alone At Night (da da da da!)

Don't You Judge Of My Composure (don't be, don't be)

'Cause I'm Lying To Myself (don't be judging!)
And The Reason Why She Left Me (don't be, don't be)

Did She Find Someone Else? (can't take it cause I'm lonely!)

And It Doesn't Seem To Matter (don't bother me!)

And It Doesn't Seem Right (just won't cleave it)

'Cause The Will Has Brought No Fortune (da dap, da dap)

Still I Cry Alone At Night (saint of the nothing but the)

Don't You Judge Of My Composure (don't be judging...)

'Cause I'm Bothered Everyday (show me, show me)

And She Didn't Leave A Letter

She Just Up And Ran Away (can't you really feel I'm lonely!)

And It Doesn't Seem To Matter (Hee hee...)

And It Doesn't Seem Right (Hee hee...)

'Cause The Will Has Brought No Fortune
Still I Cry Alone At Night

Don't You Judge Of My Composure (she don't, she don't)
'Cause I'm Bothered Everyday (won't she just do anything)

And She Didn't Leave A Letter (she don't leave a letter)

She Just Up And Ran Away (Is it my brother!)

And It Doesn't Seem To Matter (don't bother me!)

'Cause The Will Has Brought No Fortune

Still I Cry Alone At Night (da da da da da da, argh!)
Don't You Judge Of My Composure (Hee!)

Arghhh... I not too happy with the male artistes list... I realized taht there are quite a lot veteran artistes there (those aged above 45). But I am totally cool with the female artistes list. This is who I think should be included and who should not...

SHOULD be in list: Nat Ho, Shaun Chen, Dasmond Koh
Not in list, but kinda understandable: Edmund Chen (no longer full-timer), Terence Cao, Jeff Wang
SHOULD NOT even be in list at all: Marcus Chin, Henry Thia, Gurmit Singh (sorry)

Now the "real countdown" begins... I have exactly one month to consider whether or not to request for tickets for the live show, even if the voting system may be as screwed up as always...

Spring of Bloom event at Bugis Junction

I left the house at abt 11 am earlier today to let Bro mop the floor, took train to VivoCity and had early lunch there. Then I met up with the committee members of the Elvinology fanclub, renewed my membership along with a friend's. After watching the slideshows for various gatherings in the past 3 years, I bade the committee frewell and set off to Bugis Junction, to see Fiona of course :-)

The male models who strutted the makeshift catwalk weren't very good-looking IMO... Fiona came at 3.45 pm, and she picked 3 male volunteers to do catwalk. Syazali happened to be one of them, haha!! Pity Fiona didn't seem to notice me as she was about to leave, but that's ok. I stayed behind a little longer to wait for the Playboy Bunny Gals. Turns out that they weren't as cute as I thought (but they were quite hot lah... one quite busty and the other quite leggy). If I remember correctly, the Eurasian one with nice legs is named Melissa Pinto or something... I recognized her as a New Paper New Face finalist (year 2003 I think). I was already too tired to go anywhere else, so I took a bus back home and slacked on the computer as usual.

Hey Gorgeous finals (details only)

Happy Birthday to Paul Twohill and Teng Hui

Today was a crazy day, I went to West Coast Plaza to root for Charlyene during the Hey Gorgeous finals. Turned out I was the only one who made posters... and jialatt, I kena interviewed bcos of that!! Die lah, I confirm might appear on i-weekly very soon... I pray and hope that I don't get hate mail flooding in my inbox or something... :-S

This was how the day began... I left the house rather late at 11.30 am, took train from Kovan to Outram Park interchange, then took second train to Clementi. I happened to meet fellow NATurals Michelle and Meiyan there, and the 3 of us took the free service shuttle bus to West Coast Plaza. Turned out that the place was smaller than I had thought, but then again, it was my first time there. The place was almost vacant at the time I reached the place, but when the crowd started increasing, I realized that I do need to fill my stomach, so I rushed to Subway to buy a sandwich for quick lunch.

The event started a bit late at about 1420 hrs, Lee Teng and Jiahui were the hosts. Daren, Nat and Fiona were the guest judges. Out of 13 contestants, 1 of them (John Fluckinger from Nanyang Poly) pulled out at last minute cos he was down with fever at very last minute (sibei suay). Reminded me a little of the other time when Jasmine couldnt participate in Stardust finals last year due to similar reasons.

This was what the 12 finalists did in first round...

  • Teddy (NTU) and Linda (NYP) did a duet
  • Charlyene (NTU) did a ballroom dance
  • Joash (NP) did a tribal dance (he was clad only in green towel!!)
  • Manton (RP) did a magic performance, dealing with
  • Joreen (NP) did a magic performance, dealing with colors and cards. She looked quite hot
  • Katty (SP) sang a mixture of songs while her friend strummed on acoustic guitar.
  • Ron Ng (SP) did Capeiora dance, his handstands were impressive.
  • Sharon (NUS) played an SHE number on the electric organ.
  • Gary (NUS) and Ferynn (SP) sang "Xiao Jiu Wo" (originally sung by JJ Lin and Charene Choi). Later they were made to kiss each other in the lips!
  • Serene (TP) did hip-hop dance.

Second round featured the hunks and babes in beach attire. Joreen and Ferynn looked the hottest in bikni tops... Lee Teng was close to getting nosebleed, haha!! The other girls wore floral dresses, I felt Linda got the hottest pair of legs, heh. The ones who got eliminated after this were 2 guys (Joash and) and 3 girls (Katty, Sharon and Ferynn).

Third round was Q n A for the 7 finalists, the question imposed on Teddy by the ratehr lame Lee Teng was the funniest (something to do with Brokeback Mountain or Milk, shudder). After that, came the part where the fans give a flower to the contestant they like... I obviously gave mine to Charlyene, hehe. Oh yes, I also got to chat with Charlyene's mum who was present at the scene. Charlyene got the most number of roses with 16, more than all the others. Poor Ron got only one.

In the end, it was Teddy and Charlyene who won the titles of School Beau and School Belle!! NTU reps win for second time in a row!! It was indeed a pleasure to see Fiona give flowers to Teddy, and to see Nat give flowers to Charlyene. Right after the event ended, 3 of us (Pamela, Valerie and myself) shared cab to MediaCorp to wait for the finalists to return. Val and myself went ot RG first to wait for the judges to come out... Daren had already left by then, whereas Fiona had to rush off by taxi, but before asking me to send her regards plus apologies to Xueting (who was on her way to MDC). Nat on the other hand stayed for a few minutes to chat with us fans, and yep we got to take pic with him again, just before he drove off. :-)

We then headed back to reception... a few minutes before 6 pm, the finalists came out, I took pic with 4 of the finalists... Charlyene, Teddy, Joash and Gary. Charlyene gave me a big surprise, and we hugged each other. One of the finalists left the place rather early, he was from RP I believe. 3 of the finalists (namely Teddy, Linda and Sharon) took same bus with the few of us fans to Toa Payoh interchange. After we dropped off, I took photo with sweet-faced Linda (NYP babe). Lo and behold, guess who we met at the mrt station... MABLE??? :-O She was going to Jurong East region with a friend.

To end off, we dropped off at different locations... I reached Marina Square at 7 pm to check out the auditions at Media Fiesta section; true enough, the cast of Fighting Spiders were already gone, but that's ok. I had my dinner at the food court, then took long bus ride back home.

Because I took over 400 photos at West Coast Plaza, and I am having login problems with Blogger these days, I am gonna post very few photos of the event in a future post. Provided that Blogger is working properly that is...
