My thoughts on the Star Awards ceremony

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO KEVIN AND SANDRA

This year's Star Awards has gotta be the WORST Star Awards ceremony ever... this may have been my first time being involved in Star Awards at the actual place, yet I was disappointed (along wif many others) over a lot of things:
  1. The venue is at St James Power Station, located just behind Vivo City... and to think that while we can get to see the celebs at the Walk of Fame, we had to sit OUTSIDE the pub att the mosh pit to watch the show via outdoor screen... it's just as 'good' as watching at home. If it were held at Mediacorp Theater, then i would definitely go. But at St James, the enthusiasm is just not there... no point waving our boards around when most of us can't even get into the place to watch the ceremony ('very good' choice of venue, MediaCorp!!). There were times when i felt like walking out of the place and going back home, but I decided to stay and watch for Rui En's and Felicia's sake... not forgetting Rebecca and Ling Lee :-/
  2. Due to the fact that the event is sponsored by Tiger Beer, the carpet for the Walk of Fame is blue in color, instead of the traditional red color. Makes the whole pre-event session look rather unglam... even as the various celebs walk past us and wave to us.
  3. The foreign celebs talk a lot of crap and use up so much time before presenting some of the wards (like those 3 comedians who impersonate Zhang Fei, Fei Yu Qing among a few other popular Taiwnaese celebs). And some more, there was a commercial break after the presentations of the first few awards. By the time it got to the Top 10 female and male award presentations, all the celebs were being forced to quicken up, for fear of overrun. And thus the whole show ended very abruptly.
  4. The post event party... too much singing, too little talk to the winners. Too much focus on the Project Superstar and Campus Superstar contestants. Seeing Geradline See makes my blood boil. Im so against Channel U coming up with such lame shows to boost its ratings.
  5. With 50% telephone voting and 50% popularity survey, there are bound to be plenty of unxexpected twists and surprises at the last minute.
Here are the results:

Best Actor: Li Nanxing (The Undisclosed)What the...??? I was wanting Qi Yuwu to win... cos "C.I.D." was a MUCH better show than "The Undisclosed".
Best Actress: Ivy Lee (Family Matters)
I'm ok wif that... in fact, Ivy's acting had improved gradually. Ann Kok was touted to win this one.
Best Supporting Actor: Huang Yiliang (Women Of Tim
es)Sigh, I thot Zheng Geping would win this one... but this worn-out meatball??? Yiliang did apologize for embarrassing his ex-wife 3 yrs ago (when he called her a 'giraffe' for not being awarded anything in spite of her hard work)... at least that one we can accept (man I had no idea that he remarried).
Best Supporting Actress: Hong Huifang (The Shining Star)This one wasn't too surprising either... tho I would prefer Constance to win for her very convincing portrayal of a transsexual in "C.I.D."
Best Variety Show Host: Bryan Wong (Home Decor Survivor) Im ok with anyone... no preference. Wasn't too surprised abt this.
Best Drama Serial: The Shining Star
Best Variety Programme: Home Decor Survivor
Best Variety Special: Ren Ci Charity Show 2006

I have second thoughts on going for next year's Star Awards... I would go only if it's held at good ol' Mediacorp theatre. As long as I can get a place INSIDE the theatre, I would be satisfied.
