Star Wars Episode 7 Part 02: An Invisible Energy
The Force is an energy that flows through all living things, binding the galaxy together. Force-sensitive beings can use it to achieve power and destruction, or peace and justice. For the Force has two paths: the light side and the dark side.
THE LIGHT
The Jedi Order mostly consists of polymaths: teachers, philosophers, scientists, physicians, diplomats and warriors, who value knowledge and wisdom above nationality. Using the light side of the Force allow the Jedi to live in harmony with the universe, fell things before they see them, react quickly to danger, and handle lightsabers with incredible skill. Jedi possess great power, but they must use it wisely. The Jedi Order was almost exterminated by the galactic Empire at the end of the Clone Wars.
Most Jedi start off as younglings, studying the Force in the Jedi Temple. Upon being selected by a Jedi Knight or Master as a Padawan (apprentice), they travel with their Masters and receive one-on-one training from them. If they pass any of the 5 Jedi Trials, they are promoted to Jedi Knights, and can take on new apprentices. Upon successful training of their Padawans to Knighthood, they are promoted to Jedi Masters.
Jedi Master Yoda
In spite of his dimunitive size and advanced years, Yoda is one of the most powerful Jedi Masters in the galaxy, and one of the greatest lightsaber combatants. He had trained many Jedi younglings and Padawans for over 8 centuries, and served as high-ranking general for the Clone Troopers during the Clone Wars. Yoda felt the deaths of several Jedi via the Force, and he returned to Coruscant along with Obi-Wan Kenobi to reconfigure the coded signal and to find out the truth behind the Clone Troopers' betrayal. It was at the jedi Temple that the Jedi Masters found out about the Chancellor being Darth Sidious, and that Obi-Wan's former Padawan Anakin had become his new apprentice. After failing to defeat Darth Sidious, Yoda went into exile on the swamp planet of Dagobah, and 22 yrs later trained Luke Skywalker in the ways of the Force. The following year before the Battle of Endor, Yoda gave Luke some hints about his family, before passing away in his sleep and becoming one with the Force.
Jedi Master Mace Windu
Windu was a senior member of the Jedi Council before the Galactic Republic's fall, He is the Council's primary liaison but the Clone Wars caused him to question his most firmly held beliefs. He wields a one-of-a-kind purple bladed lightsaber; his wisdom and self-sacrifice are legendary. He bested Chancellor Palpatine in combat and was preparing to finish off the Sith Lord, however Anakin Skywalker betrayed him at the last minute by cutting off his hand, giving Palpatine the opportunity yo kill the Jedi Master with a lethal dose of Force lightning.
Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn
Padawan to Count Dooku and mentor to Obi-Wan Kenobi, Qui-Gon was a wise Master and a maverick at the same time. Unlike other, more conservative Jedi, he values living in the moment as the best way to embrace the Force and his ideals often clash with the Jedi Order's philosophy. Upon being defeated by a mysterious Sith Lord, his dying wish was for Obi-Wan to train Anakin Skywalker (a child prodigy he discovered on Tatooine) in the ways of the Force. His spirit lived on in the afterlife and he taught Master Yoda the secret to immortality moments before the birth of Anakin's twins, and Yoda then passed on the secret to Obi-Wan.
Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi
As wise as Yoda and as mighty as Mace Windu, Obi-Wan was Padawan to Qui-Gon Jinn and mentor to Anakin Skywalker, and later Anakin's son Luke. During the Clone Wars, he served as a general to the grand Army of the Republic, and was nicknamed the Negotiator, due to his uncanny ability to prevent battle simply through his diplomatic skills, without the need of a weapon. Upon defeating his former apprentice in combat and assisting in the birth of Padme's twins, Obi-Wan exiled himself in Tatooine and occasionally watched over Luke, who was raised by Anakin's stepbrother Owen Lars and wife Beru. His last act during the Galactic Civil War was to disable the first Death Star's tractor beam and face his former apprentice Darth Vader in a rematch. Obi-Wan allowed himself to be cut down by Vader, becoming one with the Force. Even in the afterlife. Obi-Wan continued to assist Luke and told him to go to Dagobah to continue his Jedi training under the great Master Yoda.
Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker
Once a slave in Tatooine, Anakin possessed exceptional skill and was destined to become one of the most powerful Jedi. However, his inability to control his darker emotions have made him reckless, over-confident and arrogant. His deep attachments towards his loved ones proved to be his undoing, and his journey down the dark path began with the death of his mother, which resulted in him losing control of himself and slaughtering the entire Tusken tribe responsible for her kidnap and death. Anakin defied the Jedi rules by marrying Senator Padme Amidala in secret, and the only ones who knew about this were the couple's droids and Chancellor Palpatine, whom he often confided in. Haunted by a dream of Padme dying and fearing that it will come true, Anakin chose to pledge himself to the teachings of Darth Sidious and embrace the dark side for unlimited power; his first mission was to lead the 501st Legion of Clone Troopers into the Jedi Temple and exterminate all Jedi within, youngling or Knight.
Jedi Knight Luke Skywalker
The son of Anakin Skywalker and Padme Amidala, he was born in the remote world of Polis Massa, and was brought over to his father's homeworld of Tatooine to be raised by his stepuncle Owen Lars. Once impatient and reckless like his father, over the years Luke had matured and not ony become a high-ranking official in the Rebel Alliance, but also a wise and responsible Jedi. He succeeded in helping his father turn away from the dark side, and later saw his father's ghost form along with the spectral forms of Obi-Wan and Yoda.
THE DARK
The dark side of the Force feeds on negative feelings such as anger, fear, jealousy, and hate. It offers almost unlimited power and access to dangerous knowledge, and transforms the ones who master it into something so evil, they cease to be human.
The Sith Order was founded by a group of wayward Jedi in search of greater power. Encouraging passion and ambition, the code states that there can be only two Sith at one time: a master, and an apprentice. When the apprentice grows more powerful than his Master, he should destroy him and choose a new apprentice of his own. The Sith Order was responsible for the downfall of the Old Republic as well as the near-extinction of the Jedi Order, which had preserved the peace for over a thousand generations.
Darth Sidious
Under his real name Sheev Palpatine, Darth Sidious is the greatest Dark Lord to have ever lived. He manipulated his way from humble Senator to Supreme Chancellor of the Republic, was given emergency powers to dispatch a grand Clone Army to assist the Jedi in their battle against the Separatists, then ordered the clone army to betray their Jedi generals, and re-established the Old Republic into the first Galactic Empire.
Darth Maul
A Dathomir Zabrak who was trained in the ways of the Sith since infancy, Darth Maul was obe of the most highly trained Sith Lords, and a very deadly opponent who wielded a double-bladed lightsaber in combat. He defeated Qui-Gon Jinn and was cut in half by Obi-Wan Kenobi, but survived the fall. His lower half was replaced by robotic limbs, and he reunited with his older brother Savage Oppress to exact revenge on Obi-Wan, as well as confront his former Master Darth Sidious.
Darth Tyranus
Once a Jedi Master, Count Dooku turned to the dark side soon after the murder of his former apprentice Qui-Gon Jinn, and became the new apprentice of Darth Sidious. He unified several star systems to form the Condeferacy of Independent Systems, to wage war against the Jedi Order and the grand Army of the Republic. He was defeated by Anakin Skywalker and decapitated at his master's request, realizing too late that Anakin was meant to be his successor in the ways of the Sith.
Darth Vader
He was once known as Anakin Skywalker, an immensely powerful Force-sensitive human who became a hero during the Clone Wars. Though believed to be the Chosen One who would bring balance to the Force, Anakin was seduced by the dark side and swore allegiance to Darth Sidious, being reborn as Darth Vader, being tasked with wiping out the Jedi and the Separatists. He was gravely injured after a battle against his former mentor Obi-Wan, and required a life support armor to stay alive. led to believe that he had killed his own wife Padme and his twins, Vader abandoned his humanity and served as the Empreror's right-hand man and enforcer of the Galactif Empire for the next 2 decades. During the Battle of Endor, Vader fulfilled the Jedi prophecy by reclaiming his soul and turning on Palpatine in orer to save his own son, then became one with the Force soon after.
Kylo Ren
Little is known about this enigmatic dark-side practitioner, except that he was a former apprentice of Jedi Master Luke Skywalker. He was seduced into the dark side by Supreme Leader Snoke, formed the Kinghts of Ren and led them into slaying most of the new Jedi. He also has an unhealthy obsession towards the notorious Darth Vader, who is believed to be related to him in some way. Denying his past identity, Kylo would do whatever it takes to accomplish his wicked goals: manipulating betraying and murdering anyone who dares to interfere.
