WWE Summerslam 2008 results

So much had happened today, mostly in the morning. Since I don't have much time to talk about it for now, I think I'll put up the results for the most recent WWE PPV event that had just transpired a few days ago. Anyone who wish to find out later and not be spoilt, please DO NOT read this entry!!

WWE Summerslam 2008

Early match: Chris Jericho vs Kane. This match was held on WWE Raw under the command of Raw GM Mike Adamle. Kane was distracted by Adamle and the security guards surrounding the ring, and this gave Y2J the opening to hit Kane with the Code Breaker and win the match. After that, Adamle kindly persuaded Kane to open the burlap bag he's been holding onto for weeks, figuring out that it contained Kane's former mask. After much hesitation, the Big Red Machine admitted that there was indeed a mask inside the bag, but it wasn't his... Kane took the mask out of the bag and revealed it to be that of... Rey Mysterio!!

Dark match: The Big Show defeated Bam Neely, who was accompanied by Chavo Guerrero. Not much of a surprise.

The first match involved Jeff Hardy vs Montel Vontavious Porter (MVP). Throughout the match MVP wore Jeff Hardy down with submission holds. The ending came in which it seemed like Jeff was gonna get the win by a Swanton Bomb, but Shelton Benjamin distracted Hardy enough for MVP to hit Jeff with the Dive By Kick for the win.

The second match was a Winner Takes All tag team match involving Santino Marella and Beth Phoenix against WWE Intercontinental Champion Kofi Kingston and WWE Women's Champion Mickie James. The rules of the match, an "Adamle Original", was that which ever team got the 3 count would get the respective titles. The ending of the match had Santino Marella push Kingston out of the ring, which followed Mickie James to DDT Marella. After the DDT, Beth hit her finisher for the win. In response, Santino was awarded with the IC title for the second time in his career and Beth was awarded with the Women's title, also the second time in her career.

Next was a segment where Shawn Michaels had a special announcement on his status of his injury he suffered from the hands of rival Chris Jericho. Michaels entered the ring with his wife Rebecca Micheals (formerly known as Whisper back inn WCW). Micheals announced that he was told from his doctors that he should retire, and that for the first time in his career, he was going to listen to the doctors orders and leave the company. Jericho interrupted this emotional moment and clamed that HBK is not retiring because of the eye injury or old injuries he recieved during his career, but rather he is retiring because of Chris Jericho and he wanted Michaels to admit it. Shawn said he would admit to it, but only if Jericho had to admit that he will never be Shawn Michaels. Chris Jericho reacted to the insult by swinging for Michaels. HBK ducked the punch and in result Jericho accidentally hit Rebecca.

The next match was an ECW Championship match between Matt Hardy and regining champion Mark Henry. This match was short after Matt Hardy hit a Twist Of Fate early on in the match and pinned Henry for a 2 count. During the pin count, Tony Atlas (Henry's manager and WWE Hall Of Famer) pulled Matt off of the champion. The bell is rung for a disqualification. Post match, Jeff Hardy comes out to fight Atlas off his brother Matt. Jeff hits a Swanton Bomb on Atlas. Then Mark Henry goes after Jeff, but was gretted with a Double Superplex by the Hardys.

The next match was a World Heavyweight Championship Match between reigning champion CM Punk and no. 1 contender John Bradshaw Layfield. The match had JBL work on Punk with his physical and brawling type of style. At one point, JBL goes for his finisher, the Clothesline From Hell, but CM Punk counters with a heel kick. This move not only resulted in a momentum change but it also had the two bump heads, which made Punk bleed on the back of his head. The blood did not phase Punk as he got back up and countered another Clothesline from JBL into a Go 2 Sleep, winning the match and retaining his title.

The fifth match was a WWE Championship Match between
reigning champion Triple H and no. 1 contender The Great Khali. Khali was dominant during the first half of the match, but in the end Triple H counters another Khali Vice Grip and finally pedigrees Khali for the win and to retain the WWE championship.

The final Monday Night Raw match had John Cena battle Batista in a match that was dubbed as '6 years in the making'. In other words, the Charismatic Brawler vs the Animalistic Powerhouse. The ending of the match came when Batista counter a leg drop from the top rope into the Batista bomb. John Cena kicked out after a 2 count for this one, but The Animal hit him with another one to get the win.

The last match of the night was a Hell in a Cell match which had Edge and The Undertaker in the 16th installment of this unique match. The Undertaker obviously won the match by delivering a Tombstone Piledriver onto the Rated R Superstar. After the match La Familia is shown clapping backstage. Signaturly, Undertaker returned back to the ring to inflicted more damage. Undertaker chokeslams him off through the ring. Shortly after, the hole Edge was in suddenly combusted, showing the irony that Edge is going straight down to hell instead of the Undertaker.
