I survived yet another gruelling dental checkup yesterday... I still kinda dread dental appointments til today (even if they last for a mere 30 minutes). Esp when it comes to scaling the upper teeth, and I haf to spit out blood after every scaling. If only my mouth were bigger, then I wouoldnt haf felt so much strain in my gums. Wonder how much more difficult it would be for Paul to get his teeth checked. Still, I thot the dentist's assistant sure got quite a good figure... :-)

My thoughts on TMNT

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ZAKI AND SIMON WEBBE

Woohoo, I managed to buy the 6 required Spider-Man toys within 1 week!! :-)
Ytd I went to Tampines Mall for 3 main purposes: to 'recce' around the place I had not been to for some time, to watch the TMNT movie, and to look for the hard-to-get super-articulated Symbiote Spider-Man figure. Indeed I accomplished all 3 goals, and I must say that the CGI-animated Ninja Turtles movie was a lot better than the 3 live-action films of yesteryear.
A lot of dark elements were applied in this film, esp with the Turtles battling the resurrected Foot Clan (led by Karai) and the 4 stone warriors led by Max Winters (who is actually an ancient warrior rendered immortal as a consequence for opening up a portal to release 13 monsters). Not to forget the strained relationship between the impulsive Raphael (who took on the mantle of Nightwatcher during Leo's absence) and Leonardo, who had returned from South America after 1 year of solo training. It all boils down to the importance of family and teamwork. Lol, Mikey's part-time job as Cowabunga Carl was freaking hilarious!! And there was also adequate airtime on the beautiful April O'Neil and the laidback hockey player-cum-vigilante Casey Jones :-)
One interesting sidenote was that towards the end of the film, when Splinter was about to place Winters' helmet onto the shelves of artefacts, the shelves consisted of items found in the past movies... Shredder's helmet, a TGRI canister, the time scepter and pieces of armor worn by the Turtles during their brief tenure in ancient day Japan.

Dance Floor Performance Round 3: Asian Pop

I finished work at 4 pm (starting off wif a very crazy order at the start of my shift), then i went to Ang Mo Kio Hub to 'recce' around... then had early dinner there, before taking Bus 165 to Mediacorp... was surprised to see Kendrick at the reseption area, and soon after, I was even more surprised to see Felicia!! :-O As in THE REAL Felicia... not the lookalike I saw on my way to Suntec on Sunday. Dont believe me? See the pic of me 'acting cute' wif the naturally cute (and very pretty) Felicia... :-)

Some of the teams from the Dance Floor came out as well (Batucadas, Styles From Beyond, J.D.I and E Squared)... and Haphiz was happy to see that Fel was at the same place as them... cool hairdyes btw, SFB guys!! And Azura, you're looking really cute and pretty wif those pigtails!! :-)

Soon after, I met Zaki, Darham, Ayu and Izzati at the carpark leading to the theater... they were also headed to root for Haphiz in this show :-)
It was rather shocking to know that Soul Fusion ended up at the bottom yet AGAIN... Batucadas and Fantastic Four also. The irony is, all Bottom 4 are quartet groups. In the end, it was the sexy + hot Batucadas whose Dance Floor journey came to an end. Man, the two hottest babes Connie and Rosanne are gone. And E Squared are still safe?!? >:-(
Anyway, as always, the show must go on no matter what, and here are my thoughts on the Final 8 teams tackling with Asian Dance... I would say only a handful of them stayed true to the tradition.

1. Soul Fusion- Great contemporary work on Arabic dance, but the ending seemed a little weak. Bill still wasnt too happy by the fact that SF ended up at the bottom 3 yet again, and decided to 'break the fourth wall' by telling the TV viewers to vote wisely. Lol, there was an albinom gorilla present in the crowd!! What next, a Michael Jackson mascot??? HEEHEE!!

2. E squared- their take on Indian dance was hilarious, and not even serious or earnest at all!! They may seem natural alright, but the fact that they haf their rich friends rooting for them is already starting to put many fans off. My advice to u? STICK TO YOUR BOOKS.

3. Melvin and Sharon - their take on Arabic dance was an earnest one, but chereography seems to be missing... the long thread of cloth tied around the waists of Melvin and Sharon seemed to be limiting their movements.

4. Platinum - Nice execution, great interpretation of change in music tempo for Chinese dance.

5. Fantastic Four - Good rhythm, great usage of props for Japanese dance. A strong comeback for their near-elimination earlier on.

6. JDI - Started a bit odd, but ended strongly. The four looked dashing like modern-day Sith Lords in red-and-black Japanese combat attire. Some of their fans seemed to getting way too rowdy though.

7.Batucadas- ELIMINATED!! The hotties were planning to do some Indian dance btw... something that could be more worth watching than E Squared's rubbish take.

8.Vas and Pris- A bit out of their league wif a Western interpretation of Chinese dance, but good try (esp wif Jay Chou's song in the background). Li Lin and Bill dont seem to like it, but who cares!! Vasily is looking more shuai, and Priscilla is definitely getting fatter...?

9. Styles From Beyond - Emulating Japanese dance, the group's creativity in music and uniqueness in dance truly shone here!! And Azura is looking prettier each week!! Bill was so hilarious... he proclaimed SFB his 'second set of homies'!! :-D

Close calls and close shams

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO IKMAL AND DANN KOH

Sigh, Im quite disappointed by the 'lack of taste' for certain judging criteria for MSU... I was kinda prepared for the worst. Miss J was among the 6 gals whose MSU journey came to an end. And from what I see in that list, she's actually the prettiest (unless she wasnt eloquent enough? But thats not possible). And she was definitely many times better than a handful of contestants who made it to the finals. Although Im obviously disappointed by her elimination, Im still proud of her no matter what. I admire her confidence and courage to take part in a contest... altho she's been ousted, she's still Number 1 to me. But her elimination seemed to haf triggered the Venom side within me once more...
On Sunday afternoon, right after church service, I was very close to making a fool of myself in front of everyone in the bus to Suntec City... u see, there's this pretty gal in white top sitting 2 seats in front of me and Mother, and as I noticed her, my heart started pumping non-stop... the fair-skinned gal looks A LOT like Felicia from side view, and even her voice sounds alike (but I knew it could not be Fel cos her current hairstyle was straight). My mum noticed me acting rather uncomfortable, and she started getting angry. Still, I persisted and waited til the bus arrived at the stop behind Suntec City. So when I took a closer look at the gal (who got off the same step)... I heaved a deep sigh of relief... it wasn't Felicia at all, but a mere lookalike whose face was smaller and lips thicker (yet still sexy, heh). Tris was abt to laugh at me for the close call to self-humilation... yet as the three of us headed for lunch at Fish and Co, I realised that the Venom side was very close to taking over my mind earlier on (it didnt help that I was still reeling in agony from Miss J's MSU journey end earlier)... like it did to that crazy guy named Sean who had embraced the dark side wholly at such a young age. Still, I cannot imagine what I would do if it were really Felicia in the bus.
On the brighter side of things, I bought more Spider-Man toys from different Toys R Us outlets, but it was extremely difficult to relocate the super-articulated Symbiote Spider-Man figure...

TMNT characters part 2: The Foot Clan

Here are the more popular members of the Foot Clan.

SHREDDER
A villainous ninja master named Oroku Saki who, along with his evil Foot Clan, is the arch-enemy of Splinter and the Turtles. Shredder wears a fearsome suit of armor covered with sharp blades. Also, in many of the earlier, less comic-oriented cartoons and films, Oroku Saki is directly responsible for both the mutation and the death of Hamato Yoshi.
Oroku Saki is the younger brother of Oroku Nagi. Nagi competed with Hamato Yoshi (the owner of Splinter, the Turtles' mentor) for the love of a woman named Tang Shen. But Shen loved only Yoshi, and a feud erupted between Yoshi and Nagi, which led to Yoshi killing Nagi and fleeing from Japan to New York City with Shen.
Saki joined the Foot Clan at a young age (about 5 years prior to Nagi's death) and trained to be a fierce ninja. Over time, he rose in ranks in the Clan and was eventually put in charge of the Clan’s American branch. This allowed him to finally move to New York and avenge his brother’s death by killing Yoshi and Shen. However, Yoshi’s pet rat Splinter escaped, mutated into an anthropomorphic form, and spent years training the four Ninja Turtles to avenge Yoshi.

KARAI
In the series, she is a member of the Foot Clan, second in authority to Shredder. Karai was abandoned by her parents at a young age, but Oroku Saki (The Shredder) found her and took her in. From there, he taught her the ways of ninjutsu, raising her as his daughter. Her character was appearently merged with this of Pimiko, another TMNT character who is the Shredder's daughter in the Mirage comics.
As in the Mirage comic book, Karai originally comes to New York in order to restore peace to the city after the Shredder has supposedly been defeated. She meets with the Turtles and Casey Jones, and, after a brief altercation, she proposes an alliance with them. Karai promises that the Foot Clan will not attack the Turtles again if they agree to the alliance. All accept this proposal, apart from Raphael, who initially refused to team up with the enemy.
Karai impersonates the Shredder (voice, armor and all) in order to bring together the Foot, the Purple Dragons, and the Mafia. They all meet at the Foot stronghold, and a battle begins. During the battle, Karai is hit, which causes the Shredder's helmet to fall off, exposing her face. Realizing that someone has been impersonating their master, the Foot turn on Karai. The Turtles and Casey Jones enter the battle. Just as Karai and the Turtles are about to be blown away, Raphael enters along with Splinter. Together they defeat the Mafia, Foot, and Purple Dragons. Karai then makes the Foot swear allegiance to her.

KRANG
Krang is an extremely intelligent warlord from Dimension X. He somehow took command of an army of Rock Soldiers under the leadership of General Traag, and stole the Technodrome, a powerful battle fortress, from its creator Drakus. Something then happened, that caused Krang to be stripped of his body and confined to a brain-like form, and to be exiled from Dimension X to Earth, along with his army and the Technodrome.
While on Earth, Krang allied himself with the Shredder, who, along with his robotic Foot Soldier army, moved into the Technodrome. In exchange, the Shredder had to design and build a new body for Krang, a human-shaped exo-suit. Shredder lived up to his part of the bargain, in no small part because he was unable to deal with the Turtles and needed Krang's help. Indeed, the Turtles enter a parallel world in which they never lived, and Shredder had no problem taking over the world. In this world, Shredder abandoned Krang after his conquest was complete, leaving him with no body and a heavily-damaged Technodrome.
Krang's ultimate goal is to take over the Earth; it probably only became his objective after he was exiled on the Earth, but this point is never made clear. Every plan Krang conceives is either aimed at that goal, or towards the short-term objective of powering-up the Technodrome. He does not share Shredder's obsession with the Turtles; while Shredder sees them as mortal enemies, Krang seems to regard them more like annoyances to be destroyed when they interfere in his plans.
Counting from the first meeting between the Turtles and the Shredder, Krang spent about eight years in his Technodrome, either somewhere on Earth or in Dimension X, scheming to power up his battle fortress and take over the Earth.

BEBOP AND ROCKSTEADY
Bebop and Rocksteady used to be human, and part of a quartet street gang in New York City that was employed by Shredder. Rocksteady (a style of Reggae) was originally a short, stocky blonde Caucasian man (who sported army camoflague pants that would be replaced with simple beige pants later while also occasionally sporting an army helmet in his mutated form) while Bebop (a style of Jazz) was a taller Hispanic man with a purple mohawk. With other members of their gang, they were sent out to stop a Channel 6 reporter named April O'Neil from doing a report about crime in the city. April ran down into the sewers while being chased by the street gang and met up with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, who defeated the gang in a fight.
After this humiliating setback, The Shredder developed a plan to defeat the Turtles by mutating members of this street gang, so that they would have abilities parallel to the Turtles'. Bebop and Rocksteady both volunteered to undergo the procedure (though neither was particularly aware of what it would entail) with the promise that it would let them get revenge on the Turtles. Bebop was mutated into a human warthog, and Rocksteady into a human rinoceros. However, though the transformation did make them larger and stronger, they remained incompetent simpletons, and completely inept at stopping the Turtles or carrying out Shredder's plans. For most of the series they were employed for comic relief purposes. In one episode of the series, Bebop was shown to have kept a pet turtle, which got mutated into the evil turtle Slash.

TMNT characters part 1: The good ones

The TMNT movie starts today, and i can hardly wait to watch it!! :-D

LEONARDO
Leonardo (or "Leo") is one of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TMNT). His bandanna is blue, and his weapons are two ninjaken (literally "ninja sword"), although every incarnation incorrectly identifies his swords as katana. He is named after Leonardo da Vinci, the famous Renaissance artist and inventor.
Leo takes after his sensei, Splinter, in taking Ninjutsu very seriously. Of the four turtles, he is the closest to Splinter and spends much of his free time in practice and meditation. He has a strong sense of honor, and is a strict follower of the Bushido code. He tries to keep his brothers in line and often has the leading role in the characters' adventures.

DONATELLO
Donatello (or "Don" or "Donny" or "Don-San"), a fictional character, is one of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TMNT). His bandana is typically portrayed as purple, and his weapon is a bo (quarterstaff) which he sometimes uses as a tool or a walking stick. Donatello is the whiz kid of the TMNT, being adept with machines, though other traits of his personality vary depending on the exact media in question. He is named after Donatello (Donato di Niccolò di Betto Bardi), the Renaissance sculptor.
The brilliant scientist, inventor, and technology geek, Don has a reputation as something of a wise guy. He is perhaps the least violent Turtle, preferring to use his intellect to solve conflicts.

RAPHAEL
Raphael (or "Raph") is one of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TMNT). His bandana is red (his favorite color), and he carries two sai (pronged daggers that Mileena from Mortal Kombat also uses). His personality is usually aggressive or sullen, and he tends to be the "rebel." He is named after Raphael Sanzio, the Renaissance painter.
Raphael's anger is not always fully explored, although in certain incarnations of the TMNT, it seems his anger stems from realizing, more than his brothers do, that they are the only creatures of their kind and are ultimately alone. Furthermore, he is often shown as feeling jealous of his brother Leonardo, who leads the TMNT. He is generally the most likely to experience extremes of emotion.

MICHELANGELO
Michelangelo (or "Mike" or "Mikey") is one of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TMNT). His bandanna is typically portrayed as orange, his favorite color, and his weapons are two nunchaku; however, he has also been portrayed using other weapons like grappling hooks and tonfas in places where nunchakus are banned. He is named after Michelangelo Buonarroti, the famous Renaissance sculptor, architect, painter and poet.
Michelangelo is probably the most light-hearted and relaxed of the Turtles. The easy-going and free-spirited Michelangelo provides much of the comic relief. While he loves to read comics and eat pizza, this Turtle also has an adventurous side.

SPLINTER
Master Splinter is the master and father figure of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. In all versions of the story, he is a mutant rat, but his origins often vary depending on the version. Splinter was the pet rat of a ninja named Hamato Yoshi. Exceptionally intelligent for his species, Splinter was able to learn his master's art by mimicking his movements while he practiced.
Yoshi eventually was embroiled in a dispute with a fellow ninja by the name of Oroku Nagi over the love of a woman named Tang Shen. When the woman favored the humble and kind Yoshi, the aggressive and violent Nagi grew angry and beat her. Yoshi came across them, and slew Nagi in his rage. Yoshi and Tang Shen escaped to New York City, but weeks later, they were tracked down and slain by Nagi's younger brother, Saki, who had become The Shredder.
Without a home, Splinter eventually came to live in the city's sewers. One day, he saw a canister of chemicals go flying from a truck. The canister struck a boy in the face after he saved a blind man from being hit by the truck (a reference to the superhero Daredevil), and then struck and shattered a bowl full of four baby turtles carried by the boy. The now broken canister and turtles fell into the sewers, where Splinter rescued them, also exposing himself to the ooze that had covered the turtles.
In time, the ooze mutated both Splinter and the turtles, increasing their size and intelligence, and making them more humanoid (especially since all five of them had been in close contact with humans). Eventually, Splinter named the four turtles Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael, and Michelangelo (after his favorite Renaissance artists) and raised them as his own 'sons', training them in the arts of ninjutsu, so that they may one day avenge the death of Hamato Yoshi and slay the Shredder, who had amassed a powerful organization in the New York underworld.

In the 1987 cartoon, it is said that Splinter is the mutated form of Hamato Yoshi himself.

APRIL O'NEIL
A former lab assistant to the mad scientist Baxter Stockman, April is the plucky human companion of the Ninja Turtles. She embarks on many of the Turtles' adventures and aids them by doing the work that the Turtles themselves cannot do in public. During the early height of TMNT popularity, April was famously depicted as a television news reporter.
The 2003 cartoon version of April makes much more use of her scientific expertise and she often uses her computer skills to aid the turtles. This has also meant that she has developed a closer relationship to Donatello, who shares many of her interests.
April is also shown to have an attraction to Casey Jones, though their contrasting personalities often make them bicker. By the third season, the two are shown to be dating and seem to have a serious relationship.
April also has developed a modest knowledge of combat skills after training with Splinter. In the series, she rarely plays the helpless damsel-in-distress role, and her quick thinking is often a key to the Turtles' survival.
According to a collectible booklet packed in with the figure of April from the TMNT film, she has become a master of the katana sword; the figure itself includes a katana, tonfa, and two shoulder armor pads.

CASEY JONES
Like the turtles, Casey Jones is a self appointed vigilante in his community, who uses dual baseball bats as well as golf clubs, cricket bats, and hockey sticks to pummel the living daylights out of would-be criminals. He stands at a full 6' 2", and dons a hockey mask, shoulder pads, cut-off biking gloves, and carries his array of weapons in a golf bag he slings over his shoulder. Clad in his fighting gear, Casey wanders the streets of Manhattan apprehending hoodlums that terrorize his neighborhood in a fashion not dissimilar to Marvel's Punisher, although without usually employing the latter's deadly force. Casey Jones is a master of stealth, as he has never been caught by the NYPD, despite his absurd appearance.
In the newest TMNT cartoon, Jones has a much more important role than in the original show. When he was a young boy, his father’s shop was burned down by Hun and the Purple Dragons. This gave Casey his hate for crime and Hun. It is revealed in one episode that he and the Turtles had met before when they were kids. The Turtles tried to teach him self defense to fight some bullies, but it ended badly. In the show, Casey has a good heart, but is easily enraged and often "thick-headed". He speaks in a Brooklyn accent, loves motorcycles, is good friends with Raphael, and is romantically involved with April. His main catchphrase is his battle cry “Googala!”.

I was very surprised to bump into Paul Twohill at Dhoby Ghaut station last night prior to heading to the train to Kovan (right after I had knocked off from work)... he was wif some ang moh chick and they were prob heading to meet up wif friends (and yes, he does recognise me). Indeed, Paul is the very first Idol i had seen in the year 2007... hadnt been bumping itno the others so far (other than reading updates in Joakim's blog).
Im still losing sleep (in a happy way of course!) over the fact that I got to see Rui En again on Wednesday night... and thus i decided to dedicate yet another song to her... :-p

Watching a movie, and new discoveries!!

This day is madness... firstly i went to Vivo City for 2 main purposes: to watch "Mr Bean's Holiday" and to check out for Masked Rider Blade toys at Toys R Us. And it helps that I got the whole day off from work again :-)
The Mr Bean movie was freaking hilarious... never thought that Willem Dafoe, who plays film producer-cum-director-cum-actor Carson Clay, would get his thunder stolen by that English nicompoop (played by the rubber-faced Rowan Atkinson). And that pretty French girl named Sabine (played by a certain French actress named Emma de Caunes) was damn HAWT. For all those who cant get enough of Mr Bean, this movie's a must-watch!! :-)
I actually cant believe I held on to my pee for half the movie... and when the movie finally ended, I quickly staggered towards the toilet, and relieved myself greatly, Austin Powers style. That should teach me to always go to the toilet before watching a movie. I tell u, if I were watching a much longer film like say 300, I dont think i can hold my pee for 2 freaking hours.
Anyway, I went to Toys R Us to check out the Masked Rider toys... and I was super shocked when I saw the newest line of toys... THE SPIDER-MAN 3 TOYS?!?! WOO HOO!!!!! :-D
Unfortunately, I didnt bring enough cash, so i had to buy only one figure first... the Venom toy!! :-)
