WWE Judgment Day 2009

Here are the matches for WWE Judgment Day 2009...

First match to be confirmed was the WWE Championship match between Randy Orton and Batista. Orton had defeated Triple H at Backlash in a Six-Man Tag Team match to become the new WWE Champion. Batista on the other hand had become No 1 contender after a count-out victory over the Big Show on the Raw episode following Backlash, and he is seething for revenge on the Legend Killer for putting him out of action those months ago.

On the April 28th episode of ECW, the ECW Interim GM Tiffany announced that ECW Champion Christian would be defending his title against Jack Swagger, the very person whom Captain Charisma had beaten for the title at Backlash.

The Rated-R Superstar Edge will be defending the World Heavyweight Championship, which he won from John Cena in a Last Man Standing Match at Backlash, against Jeff Hardy, who earned the No 1 contender spot after defeating Kane, Rey Mysterio and Chris Jericho in a Fatal-4-Way Elimination match.

The 4th match to be confirmed was John Cena vs the Big Show. During the Last Man Standing match at Backlash, then-champion Cena was attacked by the Big Show and thrown through a 7000-watt searchlight, leading to Cena being incapacitated and losing the title to Edge, as well as sustaining internal injuries. During the match to determine the No 1 contender for the WWE Championship on Raw the next night, Cena entered the arena and distracted Big Show long enough to cause him to be counted out and lose the match to Batista. The following week on Raw, Big Show demanded a match against Cena, only to have Raw GM Vickie Guererro set up a match between the two at Judgment Day.

The fith match to be confirmed was CM Punk vs Umaga. Punk had won the Money In The Bank ladder match at WrestleMania XXV, which meant that he earned the right to challenge any world champion at any time over the course of the year. On the May 1st episode of Smackdown, PunkWorld Champion Edge following a non-title victory, when Umaga suddenly barged in and assaulted him. The same thing happened a week later, and with that Punk challenged the Samoan Bulldozer in a one-on-one match at Judgment Day.

Sixth match was the Intercontinental Championship match between Rey Mysterio and Chris Jericho. Jericho was complaining about the lack of respect that he got from the fans and how he was robbed of the No 1 contender spot in the Fatal-4-way elimination match on the May 1st episode of Smackdown. On the May 8th taping of Smackdown, he had a match against Jeff Hardy, under the stipulation that should Jericho win, then the World Heavyweight Championship match at Judgment Day would become a Triple Threat. Rey Mysterio, who was at Jeff's corner, distracted Jericho and that led to Jeff winning the match. Mysterio then attacked Jericho after the match, and the match was announced in the WWE website the next day.

The last match to be confirmed was John Morrison vs Shelton Benjamin. The "Shaman of Sexy" had become a fan favorite since he got drafted to Smackdown, and Shelton was not too pleased with Morrison's arrival. During a match between Morrison and Jericho on WWE Superstars, Shelton appeared in a video footage which distracted Morrison and cost him the victory. Yet in subsequent weeks, Morrison had Shelton's number by defeating him twice (as3well as victory over Shelton's longtime friend Charlie Haas) in the week leading up to Judgment Day.
