My thoughts: obviously he was the hot favorite among the 6 names, he has already been compared to a similar role played by Tom Hanks in "Philadelphia"... Looks like Ping Hui would have to wait another year to win his first Best Actor award, haiz...
Best Actress- Joanne Peh (The Little Nyonya)
My thoughts: a totally unexpected win, but still deserving nonetheless... dark horse Joanne beating hot faves Jeanette and Chen Liping. Quite similar to Gwyneth Paltrow beating Cate Blancett in the 1998 Academy Awards.
Best Supporting Actor- Chew Chor Meng (The Golden Path)
My thoughts: another shoo-in for this category. His acceptance speech was full of emotion, given his current spinal distrophy condition.
Best Supporting Actress- Xiang Yun and Ng Hui (The Little Nyonya)
My thoughts: truly surprising, never in Star Awards history has there been 2 winners for the same category. It was probably an unaminous decision made by the judging panel. Still, both winners are deserving, esp Ng Hui for her role as the loyal Ah Tao.
Best Newcomer- Dai Yang Tian
My thoughts: obviously a hot favorite, given his rising popularity after his role as kind-hearted Japanese photographer Yamamoto Yousuke in "The Little Nyonya". But then Andie Chen is also another strong contender, with his role as Tianbao in "The Little Nyonya" and first role in "Fighting Spiders".
Best Variety Show Host- Guo Liang (CelebriTea Break)
My thoughts: finally, first ever win for this eloquent and versatile host. And a worthy one I msut say :-)
Best Info-Ed Show Host- Belinda Lee (Come Dance With Me)
My thoughts: another deserving win for this bubbly and spunky VJ-turned-compere. :-)
Best Drama- The Little Nyonya
My thoughts: this is a total no-brainer, given the immense popularity and record-breaking viewership. Then again, Perfect Cut 1 is another possible contender.
Top 10 Most Popular Male Artistes: Pornsak, Elvin Ng, Qi Yuwu, Chen Hanwei, Tay Ping Hui, Zheng Geping, Christopher Lee, Mark Lee, Bryan Wong, Henry Thia (?!?!)
My thoughts: fans of Chris and Mark need not worry about televoting next year since both got into Top 10 for the 10th time (and they will be receiving All-Time Favorite Award next year of course). First time winners include a very jubilant Pornsak and a very grateful Geping. Expected for most of the others to get in. Most unexpected (and least deserving IMHO) entrant of all has gotta be Henry Thia aka Alamak... then again, it could be his first lead role in "Love Matters" that secured him a spot.
Lost out: Zhang Yaodong and Gurmit Singh.
Top 10 Most Popular Female Artistes: Quan Yifeng, Felicia Chin, Joanne Peh, Vivian Lai, Yvonne Lim, Xiang Yun, Ivy Lee, Jesseca Liu, Rui En, Jeanette Aw
My thoughts: it was indeed a nail-biting session for RBKD and the Jeanius fans when their respective faves were the last 2 names to be announced. Most surprising comeback was Yvonne Lim, who won her second Top 10 award after a 10-year drought. It was an equally great comeback for Joanne too, who last won the award in 2005 and turned 26 the day before. Xiang Yun needs to win this award next year in order to get All-Time Favorite award.
Lost out: Kym Ng and Michelle Chia, both coincidentally among the first few artistes to jump to MediaWorks years ago.
