Watching 12 Rounds

Happy Birthday to...
8th April- Eugene and Ridhwan
9th April- Anna Low and Steph Yap

It's Maundy Thursday today... the day when Jesus and the 12 Apostles had their Last Supper, and the day when Jesus prayed in agony and got arrested.

A few days ago, I went to watch "12 Rounds" starring WWE superstar John Cena (he had reclaimed the World Heavyweight Title at WrestleMania 25). Come to think about it, the film should be renamed "8 Rounds" cos Detective Danny Fisher (Cena) directly performed 8 of the rounds as instructed by Irish terrorist Miles Jackson, who escaped from prison 2 weeks prior and was looking to seek revenge over the accidental death of his girlfriend "caused" by Danny a year prior. The other 4 rounds involved situations or people linked closely to Danny. See the below list...

1) Miles Jackson blew up Danny's house, killing the plumber inside.
2) Miles then proceeded to kidnap Danny's fiancee Molly Porter. He then tells Danny to do as he says, when he says it. Any failure to comply and it's "eye-for-an eye". Miles promises to let Molly live if Danny still stands after the 12th round.
3) Danny has to reach a certain fire station and look for a cellphone to get the next call. It was there that Danny meets up with Special Agents George Carver and Ray Santiago who are looking for him.
4) Danny has to go up a burning building and look for a vault area.
5) Danny has 7 minutes to drive the 2 vaults and get rid of the one that contains a bomb.
6) Danny has 60 seconds to save himself or an obese hotel personnel from an elevator that had been rigged with an explosive.
7) Danny has to board a bus and make sure that he let Miles and Molly leave the bus safely. Otherwise, Miles will release his thumb from the remote to a bomb device that will not only kill Molly, but also everyone else on board.
8) Danny has to decide within 60 seconds which number to dial for Miles' next location. The wrong number will disable a certain electric current.
9) Due to dialling the wrong number, the brakes to an electric train had been disabled. Danny and Ray must stop that train from ramming into a roadside carnival.
10) Danny's best friend Hank Carver is searching for Miles' accomplice in an abandoned warehouse. Since Miles is aware about this, he tells Fisher to give a call to Hank to tell him to call off the mission.
11) Fisher tries to call Hank to warn him, but couldn't get through. As a result, this rounds leads to Hank and the baddie being blown away.
12) Danny is being instructed to pay his respects at the grave of Miles' deceased girlfriend Erica. But then Danny realized that Miles is trying to mislead him so that he and Molly can get away with the cash. So Danny and George set off to a nearby hospital for the final showdown.

Come to think of it, it was more of Miles' fault than Danny's that Erica was killed, cause if Miles hadn't told Erica to run, and if Erica had been more careful, then the poor lady wouldn't have been pasted by the oncoming car.

Either way, the film is kinda predictable with the villain being defeated and the hero winning the day, but not without going through a rigorous ordeal of difficult tasks. I rate this film 6 out of 10 stars.
