Sianness, so decide to watch another film...

Happy Birthday to Ian McDiarmid, Kofi Kingston, Szeli and Gracia

(All of this actually happened yesterday...)
Having booked a ticket via AXS machine at Mediacorp on Tuesday, I set off to watch a movie at Vivo City...

"Money No Enough 2". The sequel to the 1998 film, this time written and directed by Jack Neo (who plays second brother Ah Qiang in this film). Overall quite ok, but direction is kinda weak and bland. Not enough focus on money issues regarding ERP gantries, en-bloc conflicts, pollen supplement scams, and even on filial piety (when the 3 brothers have to look after their ailing mother). Still, the film comes with some really hilarious moments. The funniest parts have gotta be when the A-ma (played by Malaysian actress Lai Ming), who had gone senile and diabetic, pestered Ah Huang (Mark Lee) at night into helping her find her undergarment, and when she annoyed Ah Hui (Henry Thia) greatly by asking him many times if he had eaten. Those scenes got everyone laughing til we nearly 'peng san' (ribs hurting).

Still I think the film has more sad moments than funny moments... like when Ah Huang's wife Yan Yan (Vivian Lai) got jailed for embezzlement, when Ah Hui abandoned A-ma in the old folks' home, and when the A-ma decided to end her own life so that Ah Qiang and his wife could use the remaining packet of blood to save their daughter who is seriously injured after a car accident that could have been avoided. Other cast members include Ah Nan (Guan Sai), Lin Ru Ping (Ah Hui's wife) and one of the Mingzhu Sisters (Ah Qiang's wife). I rate it 6.5 out of 10 stars... despite the poor direction and weak plot, it's still quite worth the watch and the laughs (as well as the tears).

You see, the main reason why I watched "Money No Enough 2" is because it's the only film that's for my liking for the time being (since I had already watched "The Mummy 3" and "Journey To The Center of the Earth"). It's kinda sad that "Wall-E" will only debut in 2 weeks time, and "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" will debut on that same week too. And yes, I am staying away from "The Love Guru"!! So what if it stars Mike Myers, Jessica Alba and Justin Timberlake? The film is being greatly panned by critics and even boycotted in India... I would rather wait for the DVD to come out. I can't afford to waste my money watching a film that is really really bad.

Oh, and I think justice has finally been served in Thailand... turns out that an arrest warrant has been placed on ex-PM Thaksin Shinawatra (the object of many Thai citizen's resent and fury) and his wife for jumping bail. Huh!! To think that Thaksin would violate the terms of his bail by fleeing from London to Beijing, to attend the Beijing Olympics?? How is it possible for him to get a ticket in first place??? This is so dumb... who is he rooting for anyway? Seems like Thaksin has become another Mas Selamat... only more infamous.

Speaking abt MS... when is he ever going to be found??? :-((((
