A world of fiction better than the real world?

Happy Birthday to Zhang Zhenhuan and Siok Yee

Yesterday, I went to watch a film titled "Inkheart". It's about this guy named Mortimer 'Mo" Fletcher who has this amazing ability to bring fictional characters to life by simply reading aloud. This is partly due to this ability (call it a blessing or a curse) that his wife Resa got sucked into the story. Mo, his daughter Meggie and his aunt Elinor set out to free all the imprisoned storybook characters and creatures in Capricorn's village with some help from Dustfinger (a fire-eating character who was read out of the book at the time of Resa's disappearance) and an Arabian thief named Farid (read out from "1001 Arabian Nights"). Later on in the film does the author of Inkheart and the henchmen of Capricorn realize that Meggie had inherited this rare ability from her dad, and thus Capricorn sees this as an opportunity to make her awaken the Shadow.

The film has a bit of feel from the Chronicles of Narnia as well as the Lord of The Rings series. Ironically, Andy Serkis who is better known for his portrayal as the malicious Gollum from the LOTR series plays the main antagonist known as Capricorn. Heavy on cliches and light on charm, with a wide range of creativity... I rate this film 6.5 out of 10 stars.

Makes me wonder somehow... if I were to think up of a fictional world that few have ever heard of... one that is free from worries, anxiety and stress, would it be a much better place to live in than in the real world... one plagued with recession, economic downturn, confusion and the like? I can never be too sure on that... one can only imagine beyond the boundaries.
